Today marked the first day of Summer for our family. Three out of four of us got sunburns. The only one in the family that did not get a sunburn was my wife. She stayed in the shade all day. She would have been right there with me and the boys but she is recovering from a knee surgery; therefore, she has not gotten her first sunburn of 2012. It is just part of Summer, getting the first sunburn out of the way. The boys stayed in the pool the entire day. I know that they are going to sleep good tonight.
It is very important to apply sunblock to help minimize your sunburn. It also helps protects your skin. I never worried about protecting my skin when I was younger and I always recovered from a sunburn very quickly. As I have gotten a few gray hairs it takes a good 4 to 5 days before I either tan or begin peeling. I had always been a skeptic when it came to sunblock, but last year I saw a dermatologist and he commented on how he could tell that I had been using sunblock. I asked him how he knew I was using sunblock and he said that he can physically see less skin damage from sun exposure by the people using sunblock. So when you are in the sun this Summer, make sure you protect your family from getting a major sunburn by applying sunblock throughly throughout the day.
